However, certain populations, such as endurance athletes who are exercising for more than two hours or those who exercise in extreme heat, may want to consider drinking electrolyte-enriched sports drinks to replace their losses ( 27).įor everyone else, getting the normal amount of sodium from foods and drinking water to remain hydrated is enough. Since around 90% of American adults consume way more than this, most people don’t need to replace sodium lost from sweat ( 26). In the US, the maximum recommended intake for sodium is 2,300 mg per day - which is equivalent to 6 grams or 1 teaspoon of table salt ( 25). It’s estimated that sweat contains about 40–60 mmol of sodium per liter on average ( 22).īut the actual amount of electrolytes lost through sweat can vary from person to person ( 23, 24). When you sweat, you lose both water and electrolytes, especially sodium and chloride.Īs a result, long periods of exercise or activity, particularly in the heat, can cause significant electrolyte loss. Severe imbalances can interfere with the way your body functions.ĭo You Need More Electrolytes If You Sweat a Lot? SummaryĮlectrolyte imbalances most commonly occur when people are severely dehydrated due to vomiting, diarrhea or excessive sweating. If you suspect you have an electrolyte imbalance, be sure to discuss your symptoms with your doctor. However, more severe imbalances can cause symptoms like ( 20, 21): If you have a mild electrolyte disturbance, you probably won’t experience any symptoms. Some illnesses, including kidney disease, eating disorders and injuries like severe burns, can cause electrolyte imbalances as well ( 16, 17, 18, 19). This is why you should be mindful of replacing any lost fluids when it’s hot or when you’re sick ( 15). In some circumstances, electrolyte levels in your blood can become too high or low, causing an imbalance ( 11, 12, 13).ĭisturbances in electrolytes can have a harmful effect on your health and can even be fatal in rare cases ( 14).Įlectrolyte imbalances often occur due to dehydration caused by excess heat, vomiting or diarrhea. They also ensure that your body’s internal environment is optimal by keeping you hydrated and helping regulate your internal pH.Įlectrolyte Imbalances Are Bad for Your Health ![]() SummaryĮlectrolytes are essential for keeping your nervous system and muscles functioning. Having the right balance of electrolytes is fundamental to maintaining your blood pH level ( 10). If it deviates from this, your body can’t function properly, and you become unwell. In your body, it’s regulated by chemical buffers, or weak acids and bases, which help minimize changes in your internal environment.įor example, your blood is regulated to stay at a pH of around 7.35 to 7.45. PH is a measure of how acidic or alkaline a solution is. To stay healthy, your body needs to regulate its internal pH ( 10). ![]() This prevents cells from bursting from being too full or shriveling up due to dehydration ( 9). Osmosis is a process where water moves through the wall of a cell membrane from a dilute solution (more water and fewer electrolytes) toward a more concentrated solution (less water and more electrolytes). Water must be kept in the right amounts both inside and outside each cell in your body ( 8).Įlectrolytes, particularly sodium, help maintain fluid balance through osmosis. Magnesium is also required in this process so that the muscle fibers can slide outward and muscles can relax after contraction. It allows muscle fibers to slide together and move over each other as the muscle shortens and contracts. The electrolyte calcium is needed for muscle contraction ( 7). When this happens, it sets off a chain reaction, moving more sodium ions (and the change in charge) along the length of the nerve cell axon. The changes occur due to the movement of the electrolyte sodium across the nerve cell membrane. These signals are called nervous impulses, and they’re generated by changes to the electrical charge of the nerve cell membrane ( 6). Your brain sends electrical signals through your nerve cells to communicate with the cells throughout your body. Electrolytes are crucial to keeping your nervous system and muscles functioning and your internal environment balanced. ![]() ^ "Down" did not enter the Billboard Hot 100, but peaked at number 37 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart.Music videos List of music videos, showing year released and directorsĭante Ariola, Anthony Artiaga, and Jay Papke Lifestyle Communities Pavilion: Columbus, OH: "-" denotes a recording that did not chart or was not released in that territory.ģ11 Pow Wow Festival: Transistor Full Album Set: 08/06/11: Live Oaks, FLĬharter One Pavilion at Northerly Island: Chicago, IL: 7/14/11 The title track from Don't Tread on Me was released as a single and peaked at number two on the Alternative Songs chart. For ☋rix to SG, another expression was generated by polynomial analysis: To get from any of those values back to specific gravity involves a rearrangement where possible. Thus, we time number of kg in one litre, by the number of grams dissolved per kg, and are left with the number of grams per litre. 'brix * 10' simply corrects the ☋rix value from being grams per 100 grams to being grams per kg. The gravity tells us how much 1 litre of the liquid weighs (in kg) - we then multiply this by the dissolved solids ratio to give dissolved solids per litre. Below, you can briefly read all the steps. You do not need to register simply enter the required temperature value, and our tool will convert it to its equivalent value. This allows us to calculate the dissolved solids, thus: Our free Temperature Converter converts between Fahrenheit, Celsius, Kelvin, and other temperature units. Subtly, these measure different things, the specific gravity tells us the density of the liquid (grams per litre) and the ☋rix tells us the dissolved solids (percentage mass of solute to solution - grams per 100 grams). Grams per litre of dissolved solids is calculated from the specific gravity, and the ☋rix. Oechsle has a simple relationship with SG: Use the conversion ratio to complete the unit conversion, basically dividing the input by 1, the J units cancel out, and we are left with calmean units. ![]() Potential alcohol is calculated as discussed in the alcohol predicition section, with the assumption of a final gravity of 1.000, and a correction for DSOS of 0.007. then divide both sides of the equation by calmean, to get the conversion ratio. The SuperCab configuration of the Super Duty marked the introduction of two standard rear-hinged doors on the extended cab, a feature also adopted by the F-150 and Ranger/ Mazda B-Series for 1999. The Super Duty trucks were produced with three cab configurations-a two-door regular cab, 2+2 door SuperCab, and four-door crew cab. Prior to the release of the Super Duty series, the previous-generation F-250HD and F-350 carried over for 1997 (alongside a separate F-250 light duty based upon the tenth-generation F-150).īeginning production in January 1998 for the 1999 model year (1998 hiatus), the Ford F-Series Super Duty consisted of the F-250 pickup truck, F-350 pickup truck and chassis cab, and introduced the F-450 and F-550 chassis-cab trucks (see below). By expanding the model line into two separate but related platforms, the inevitable compromises inherent in offering a wide range of load-carrying capacities were avoided. To appeal towards commercial and fleet buyers and owners who tow, the F-250 and F-350 were developed as a separate, dedicated heavy-duty truck platform (in place of using one platform for all of its trucks). While still functioning as a full-size pickup, the F-150 adopted car-like aerodynamics and convenience features to expand its appeal among consumers. In response to the changing demographics of pickup truck buyers during the 1980s and 1990s, as part of the redesign of the F-Series for the 1997 model year, the model family began a split into two model families, introducing the 1997 Ford F-150 as the first of two distinct F-Series lines. In 1987, Ford revitalized the name as a Class 4 truck badged as the "F-Super Duty." Manufactured solely as a chassis-cab vehicle, it was slotted between the F-350 and F-600 at the time, and was offered either with a 7.5L gasoline V8 or a 7.3L diesel V8. Though its poor fuel economy proved uncompetitive against the increasing popularity of diesel engines, the durability of the Super Duty V8 kept the engine in production until 1981. Alongside the Ford C-Series and H-Series cabovers, the N-Series conventional adopted the Super Duty name. To showcase the engine launch, the "Big Job" conventional truck variants of the F-Series were rebranded as Super Duty, a name added to other Ford trucks as well. The largest-block V8 engines ever built by Ford Motor Company, the Super Duty engines were the largest mass-produced gasoline V8 engines in the world (for road-going vehicles). In 1958, Ford introduced the Super Duty engine family as big-block V8 engines for trucks, offered in 401, 477, and 534 cubic-inch displacements. Prior to 2016, medium-duty trucks were assembled in Mexico under the Blue Diamond Truck joint venture with Navistar International.īackground Previous use of name The Super Duty trucks and chassis-cabs are assembled at the Kentucky Truck Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, and at Ohio Assembly in Avon Lake, Ohio. The Super Duty pickup truck also served as the basis for the Ford Excursion full-sized SUV. The model line also offers Ford Power Stroke V8 diesel engines as an option.įord also offers a medium-duty version of the F-Series (F-650 and F-750), which is sometimes branded as the Super Duty, but is another chassis variant. With a GVWR over 8,500 lb (3,900 kg), Super Duty pickups are Class 2 and 3 trucks, while chassis-cab trucks are offered in Classes 3, 4, 5, and 6. The heavier-duty chassis components allow for heavier payloads and towing capabilities. Rather than adapting the lighter-duty F-150 truck for heavier use, Super Duty trucks have been designed as a dedicated variant of the Ford F-Series. The F-250 through F-450 are offered as pickup trucks, while the F-350 through F-600 are offered as chassis cabs. Slotted above the consumer-oriented Ford F-150, the Super Duty trucks are an expansion of the Ford F-Series range, from F-250 to the F-600. The Ford Super Duty (also known as the Ford F-Series Super Duty) is a series of heavy-duty pickup trucks produced by the Ford Motor Company since the 1999 model year. ![]() So, if you wish to play WMA on Mac, you need an all-around good player which supports the WMA file type. It is not so widely supported compared to MP3. Still, AAC actually offers better quality than MP3 at the same bitrate. Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) is an audio coding standard for lossy digital audio compression. It is definitely the most well-supported format, however, it provides lower sound quality than the lossless FLAC and ALAC. Of course, if you wish to play FLAC on Mac, there’s certainly a way - apps such as the Elmedia Player can do just that. The only difference comes in terms of device compatibility: ALAC is an Apple-specific format which can be played by iTunes. These two formats are pretty much equal in terms of sound quality. Initially chose Apple Lossless over FLAC on the assumption there would be long-term commitment to quality/consistency and decoder support, but was that right? Roon could definitely be my main metadata management tool if it only had a column browser option.FLAC, ALAC, AAC, M4A, WMA: What’s the Difference?įLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec), ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Codec) are lossless formats, designed for high fidelity sound. As someone who has 3000 CDs ripped into Apple Lossless, am concerned about Apple’s long-term commitment to the format. Have been testing Swinsian, and its Column Browser, and it seems promising for “Step 2” above, but there’s another loose end looming large namely, that there’s no Apple Lossless encoder in Swinsian … or anywhere else other than iTunes/Music. Have tried to fiddle with the new Apple Music app … somehow using smart playlists to emulate the genre column of Column Browser, but it just doesn’t work well. Workflow was: (1) rip into iTunes, (2) correct/manage metadata in iTunes, (3) allow Carbon Copy to move iTunes library changes to Synology at night, (4) enjoy music collection via Synology-based Roon core. Haven’t seen any other good way to manage a library of several thousand ripped CDs. I’m afraid being a digital music “collector” is a dead hobby.Ĭan’t fathom how column browser could go away … but here we are. I am a little worried how I am going to export music for playback in my car and with my Walkman (both of which are now done using DougScripts and iTunes), but I’ve been using Soundiiz to create matching playlists from my iTunes collection on Spotify. With the macOS Catalina “dumpster fire”, I am moving on and saying goodbye to Apple for managing my music library. It takes some getting used to, but I’ve managed to build collections that mimic (and improve upon) what I did in iTunes. It first, I was missing iTunes features for “slicing and dicing”, but I’ve learned to replacing everything I used to do in iTunes with Roon’s tag, focus and bookmark features. I use XLD for ripping/transcoding and Metadactics (macOS app) for tagging. I am learning to live without iTunes and replacing it with Roon. The world belongs to Spotify (I know Apple claims big subscriber numbers, but they are giving it away - I have a free Apple Music subscription from Verizon). The fact is, the kids don’t collect music and Apple has never had a good eco-system for sharing music across devices, other than MusicMatch and Apple Music.
